A deep dive into the northernmost vineyards of the Côte d’Or. Just south of Dijon, Marsannay was long overlooked by the barons of Burgundy. It is now being recognised for a great wine-growing climate and an exciting new breed of vignerons.

About the event
Marsannay is where the Cote de Nuits begins. Though good white wines are produced, this is
primarily Pinot Noir red wine country. It has a fractious, complicated history, which may account
for it not being given an appellation until 1987. Marsannay has some innovative vignerons such as
Bruno Clair, Jean Fournier and Sylvain Pataille, all working toward gaining the status which will
allow classification of grand cru for the best vineyards. For this tasting you can look forward to
the following seven wines. I have focussed particularly on Domaine Jean Fournier, where Jean’s
