About the event
Farming practices have been changing since the 1980s; they have gathered pace since the millenium. This is not solely the result of climate change, though that has been a prime mover. A greater understanding of soil science has led to low-intervention methods of viniculture.
Mâconnais wines are being produced now which serious challenge their expensive northern Burgundian neighbours. In this selection we will taste wines from among the very best of vignerons, whose understanding of terroir impacts the whole of the production process. Many of them remain ‘family businesses’ whose focus on quality at the expense of volume gives a clue to their long-term commitment.
This session’s choices are preceded by a petillant aperitif :
Pierre Chainier Brut, AOP Crémant de Loire
2020 Mâcon-Bray, Les Essarts, Pierre Boisson
2021 Mâcon-la Roche Vineuse, Les Cras, Olivier Merlin
